There are many cancer patients in Fuda, some of them have just had cryosurgery, and some of them have chemotherapy and other treatments. We could always see the wife or husband accompanying their beloved ones in these toughest times.

On February 14, we presented our patient rose and chocolate as a token of care.

 An eight-year love marathon

Mr. He, who is 53 years old, comes from Kuala Lumpur. He was diagnosed with lung cancer during a physical examination at the local hospital in September, 2016, and came to Fuda Cancer Hospital for further treatment referred by one of his friends. After receiving cryosurgery and microvascular interventional chemotherapy, he has an improved condition. He said, “My tumor marker has already reduced to a normal range. I do hope I could realize the concept of “living with cancer” advocated by professor Xu Kecheng.

Mr. He and his wife were schoolmates at junior high school. And they fell in love with each other after graduating from senior high school. They got married after 8-year love marathon in 1992. Now they have one 22-year old daughter and one 20-year old son. His wife’s accompanying and thoughtful care during since his illness moved him deeply.

Love is about being around.

Uncle Wu, 76 years old, is a second generation of Indonesian Chinese. He was diagnosed with liver cancer in May 2012. He, escorted by his wife, came to Fuda Cancer Hospital for further treatment in September, 2012. After he received Argon-Helium cryosurgery and iodine seeds implantation therapy, his condition was controlled. He is fighting with cancer positively and feels confident in the treatments.

Talking about their love story, Mrs. Wu chuckled shyly and said, “Your uncle Wu was tall and handsome when he was young. We met each other when we were playing basketball. Not like the young people now who like to go outside and have a candlelight dinner. We were not that romantic at that time. Our dating was always like having a meal at home and our wedding was also very traditional.”

Falling in love at 21 years old and getting married at 24 years old, Mr. Wu and Mrs. Wu went through numerous difficulties together. Mrs. Wu pointed the picture on her phone and said contentedly, “I have four sons and ten grandchildren and all of them are filial.”

They were having their golden wedding anniversary at 2014. Mrs. Wu dressed up and the whole family dined out.

This 89-year old grandma suffers from oral cancer, but the grandpa has been taking care of her everyday. “She took care of me when we were young. Now it is my bounden duty to take care of her.” said the grandpa.

For life or for death, however separated,

To our beloved we pledged our word.

We held their hands;

We are to grow old together with them
