A few days ago, Bent Jensen, Danish, who had just undergone irreversible electroporation (“Nano-Knife”) at our hospital, Fuda Cancer Hospital (Fuda), sent a special message to us. He said that he would like to do something for other cancer patients after returning to Denmark, so he shared his experience at Fuda on the Internet to enable more people to know about Fuda and “Nano-Knife”, another choice provided for cancer patients.

"If I had not been to China, I would not be here today."

Bent, 54 years old, arrived at our hospital in October this year. He was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma and had already received many treatments at a local hospital, such as a stent built in bile duct to let bile pass through. However, the stent caused pancreatitis, which gave rise to difficulty for surgery. If he underwent surgery at that time, he might die of infection.

Bent was thrown into a dilemma.

Seeing all these in her eyes, Tine, Bent's wife who had already lost a daughter, was suspicious of the previous treatment Bent had received. Therefore, she often asked if there were any other treatments that could help, but all she got was the answer “no”.

"They said Bent looked good and chemotherapy works... but I know he's not that good," Tine said.

Later, a nightmare arrived on the eve of their 30th wedding anniversary-- local doctors gave up his treatment, which meant that the countdown to Bent's life had begun, while he and his family were unwilling to accept this. To save his life, his family had to race against time. Fortunately, his son-in-law found “Nano-Knife” online, which might help Bent.

“Nano-Knife”, a minimally invasive procedure, is performed without cutting open body. During this treatment, the tumor will be eliminated by introducing electrodes into the body and placing them on the both sides of tumor and then transmitting a surge with a high voltage per millisecond.

“Why not give it a try before you die?” Bent said.

Then he received irreversible electroporation for tumor ablation at Fuda and finally he survived, even though he was abandoned by other hospital.

"We hoped Bent could be 100% cured, and we tried. Luckily, we went to Fuda for treatment, otherwise Bent will not be here with us today. We don’t know if we can "buy" 5 or 10 years for Bent. But we think what we did is worthwhile," Tine added.

We sincerely hope that the story of Bent may inspire more people to make a right choice for themselves.
