Prof. Niu is good at utilizing minimally invasive treatments for cancer, especially in liver cancer, lung cancer, kidney cancer, thyroid cancer and abdomen tumor, which is unique among traditional treatments. The team led by Prof. Niu has gained outstanding achievements as they have completed the most cases of Cryosurgery (over 20,000), including numerous complicated ones. In addition, his team has trained and guided doctors from Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippine, Korea, Taiwan and affiliated hospitals of Southern Medical University and XiangYa School of Medicine to perform Cryosurgery.

Prof. Niu has published over 300 articles, including 81 SCI articles. He has also participated in editing over 20 medical monographs. He is the chief editor for 6 medical monographs, like Cryosurgery for Cancer (Chinese and English version), New Technique Cancer Ablation Irreversible Electroporation. He has obtained scientific research fund for 25 times.
