I have been in medical practice for forty-six years and have witnessed many patients die either because of the severity of their illnesses or because there was no cure for their illnesses yet. Being a doctor, my heart must be as hard as stone when I am faced with a patient’s death. The strange thing is, in recent years there is a dramatic change in my mentality; I always lament over the death of cancer patients. Some times I would wake up at 3 or 4 a.m. and begin to think of the condition of patients in our hospital. If a patient is critically ill, I am unable to fall asleep at night. My wife always says, “It seems you cannot be a doctor any more!”
