PASCUAL MALASARTE DANILO, a 65-year-old patient from the Philippines, found a giant mass in his left cheek and neck on September 21, 2017. Bearing great pain caused by this mass, Danilo went to local hospital, and a biopsy indicted malignant tumor in left submandibular region with metastasis on left side of neck. It was a bolt from the blue for him.
When Danilo heard that people would die soon after chemotherapy, he was quite scared and refused to receive any chemotherapy. At that time, his tumor grew larger and more in numbers because of lack of treatment, and he could not even fall sleep or eat due to the unbearable pain. It was not that he doesn’t want any treatment, he just doesn’t want treatment that would inflict so much pain that has been torturing him. He was always wondering “is there a treatment to save me from this endless pain?”
By good luck, Danilo was guided to Fuda Cancer Hospital known for minimally invasive treatments. After comprehensive analysis of his conditions, doctors in Fuda recommended systemic chemotherapy with local minimally invasive treatment plus targeted therapy. Meanwhile, doctors also explained to him the necessity of chemotherapy and advantages of a combination with minimally invasive treatment. However, since it is the first time for Danilo to go abroad for treatment, he felt quite uneasy and afraid of being cheated. But Carol, a staff in customer service who used to be a nurse, was able to talk him out of worries. Carol and medical staff’s care and guidance helped him conquer his fear and distrust, and agreed on the treatment plan given by doctor.
After Iodine-125 Seed brachytherapy and 6 cycles of interventional chemotherapy, the tumor and pain in his left mandible and neck completely disappeared. On that day of his discharge from Fuda Cancer Hospital, he looked like a different man, both outwardly and inwardly. Gloomy looks caused by the torture of disease was gone; smile and peace returned.
‘I thought I would have to spend the rest of my life in misery till I found Fuda, it shed a ray of light into the darkest moment of my life.’
